Three meetings today across the UK. One jumps card at Plumpton, where the going will probably be good. On the flat, we have Windsor and Pontefract. The going at Windsor is a similar story to Plumpton, but it is soft at Pontefract and it will be a slog.
At Plumpton, we have an interesting maiden hurdle to open the meeting with a lot of potential on show. Graasten, for the Gary Moore stable stable, was second in both hurdles races to date. It had a run on the flat recently and should be fit for this. On basic ratings from Graasten’s first two runs he sets a decent standard here, can be prominent throughout over this trip and will prefer today’s ground. I am very confident that it will finish in the first three.
The Class 5 maiden at Pontefract looks to provide a good opportunity for Alf Guineas to get his head in front. Some other big yards are represented in this one but Alf Guineas looked like it needed this staying distance and soft ground when it was staying on into second on debut. Some of the others will not enjoy the going and the Gosden horse is fancied today. I rated its run two lengths better than the Godolphin horse.
Windsor is very competitive today, but my ratings have the speedy Foxcatcher well ahead of its rivals in the 1.50. She should lead easily here and the race is not as competitive as the numbers would suggest. She hung on her debut in the nursery but the addition of the blinkers should help today. The early money suggests that they are expected to do the trick.
