Mesut Ozil reportedly on the radar of Premier League rival

As January edges closer, you can guarantee there are going to be some crazy transfer rumours doing the rounds.

There’s still plenty of time for it to be beaten, but The Sun have conjured up an early entry for the craziest speculation of them all.

It involves Mesut Ozil going to Manchester United. Just to be clear, this is not something to be putting money on.

Ozil leaving Arsenal is far from guaranteed. Contract talks are ongoing, but the German international is holding out for higher wages. A summer move back to his old club, Real Madrid, could potentially be on the cards, but the likelihood of Arsenal letting him move to Old Trafford is virtually zero.

What is almost certain, though, is that the playmaker’s representatives will use these rumours to add fuel to the fire, as Arsenal won’t want to let contract talks go on until the summer – when Ozil will have just a year left.

Jose Mourinho knows him well from their time at Madrid, but it still seems more probable that the Special One will instead try and lure Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann to the Theatre of Dreams.
