Jose Mourinho set to recall United loanee amidst defensive crisis

If Jose Mourinho didn’t have enough problems already, he’s now staring at a full-blown defensive crisis.

Eric Bailly’s knee ligament injury has thrown a huge spanner in the works, with Chris Smalling and Daley Blind struggling at the back. Ordinarily, Blind could be played slightly further forward, but United don’t have that luxury right now.

Antonio Valencia has also been ruled out with a broken arm, meaning the Red Devils are short at full-back too.

The Sun report that Mourinho is planning to bring Cameron Borthwick-Jackson back from his loan spell at Wolves, particularly as he isn’t even being given much of a chance to develop at Molineux.

The 19-year-old has only played six times this season for the Championship outfit, but he could be the answer to United’s defensive woes.

Louis van Gaal gave the starlet his first opportunities at Old Trafford last season when he played 14 times, and if he is recalled, he could be sent out on loan again in January to continue his progress.

Preston and Wigan are both keen to borrow him, but for now, Mourinho needs him, even though injury-ridden Phil Jones has just returned to training again.

Many United fans were concerned their new manager wouldn’t give enough opportunities to the youngsters in their squad, but his hand has finally been forced.
