Chelsea may still be interested in Yannick Carrasco, but it looks like Atletico Madrid have seen them coming.
According to the Mirror, the La Liga outfit are already planning to up the striker’s release clause to fend off the Blues.
Carrasco only joined Atleti in 2015, at which point a release clause of £35million was inserted into his contract.
But Diego Simeone’s side could be willing to offer him a new deal because that would include a higher clause, one which they hope will deter Antonio Conte.
The 23-year-old has four years left on his current deal, so he was never going to come cheap. However, Chelsea had hoped the Belgian international could continue his progress with them, even if he has so far shown no indication that he wants to leave the Spanish capital.
One advantage the club do have is that they hold the card of Diego Costa, who Atletico are keen to bring back. The player is known to be unhappy with his reputation in England, so he would not take much persuading to move on – opening the door to a swap deal with Carrasco.
