Chelsea must have known exactly what they were doing when they spent £33million on Michy Batshuayi this summer.
The Belgian didn’t come cheap from Marseille, and it may have been that the Blues only splashed out because they were desperate for Premier League rivals Tottenham and West Ham not to have him.
They can’t have signed him to give him game time, at least, because he’s hardly been able to oust Diego Costa from the starting line-up. That’s fair enough, as Costa’s in the form of his life, but it doesn’t bode well for Batshuayi’s own future at Stamford Bridge.
According to the Mirror, Serie A giants – albeit fallen ones, for now – AC Milan are monitoring this situation with interest. Any indication that Batshuayi wants to leave, and they are planning to swoop.
Milan have accepted they’re not going to sign Harry Kane, so Batshuayi is the target to whom they have turned their attention.
When he has been given a chance this season, he’s proven himself – he scored once at Watford and twice against Bristol Rovers in the EFL Cup, but Conte is still waiting for more.
He may be one for the future, but if he doesn’t get more minutes on the pitch soon, Chelsea could alienate him altogether – and there are plenty of clubs who will be ready to pounce if that happens.
