West Brom v Chelsea: Champions confirmed?

Published by on May 11, 2017

Chelsea have the champagne on ice as they travel to West Brom to wrap up the title on Friday evening.

The Blues’ triumph should have been a formality months ago, but victory over the Baggies will mathematically put Tottenham out of sight.

Chelsea are at 5/2 to win by a single goal, as they have done in two of their last three meetings against Tony Pulis’ side.

Antonio Conte will be doing his best to ignore the speculation linking him with Inter Milan and focusing on a more comprehensive win, and his men are at 3/1 to win by exactly two goals.

It has to be said that Brad Guzan made it easy for Diego Costa, Marcos Alonso, and Nemanja Matic for their strikes against Middlesbrough. The most likely to repeat their exploits from earlier in the week is Costa, who is at 11/4 to score first.

The striker gave a cryptic wave to the crowd in the celebrations at Stamford Bridge, but while he may already have his head in China, West Brom’s heads are on the beach.

Pulis’ teams have a reputation for dying off towards the end of the season once they’ve secured survival, and as they have very little to play for, it’s hard to see them stopping Chelsea’s inexorable march towards the title.
