Is Jose Mourinho a betting man?
Manchester United’s season looks increasingly dependent on winning the Europa League as the top four continues to elude them.
Mourinho is expected to field a strong side for the trip to Anderlecht. This is reflected in the betting odds with United favourites to win the competition at 11/8 in the betting.
The Red Devils are at 5/2 to win by exactly one goal. Their form away from home in Europe hasn’t been overwhelmingly convincing. Of five games on the road, United have drawn one, won two, and lost two.
Those travelling to Belgium will be pinning their hopes on Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has scored two in two since his return from suspension. The Swede is 1/1 to score in 90 minutes, which is worth remembering given that he’s scored five in nine appearances in the Europa League.
Marcus Rashford, meanwhile, is at 7/4 which is noteworthy as the 19-year-old’s confidence should be buoyed after ending his goal drought against Sunderland.
In contrast, it will be tough for him to get on the scoresheet against an Anderlecht side who have proven themselves to be resilient this season.
Not only do they lead Belgium’s First Division A by four points, they’ve lost just 2 of their last 12 in all competitions.
They’ll be hoping that the tie is still alive when they go to Old Trafford next week, but United should still put in a comfortable performance and win on the night.
