UK Racing – Tuesday 18th

Published by on October 18, 2016

A reasonable day yesterday, with Foxcatcher winning very easily. The price was reduced by a non-runner (20p R4). Graasten stayed on late to finish within 2 lengths of the winner and would have won shortly after the post. Looks like he needs further and should pick up one of these maiden hurdles very soon. We got the place money. The track at Pontefract did not ride well, and looked patchy and loose. Alf Guineas lost his footing when sitting out wide in running, and was effectively pulled up by the jockey. We will not be betting at Ponte again until the Spring. A small profit on the day.

Tuesday 18th October

Three meetings this afternoon but the racing at Exeter looks poor and I can’t recommend anything there today. Newcastle is on the sand, which I do not do any ratings for.We do bet there when we get some good information but there is no news around so it is just Yarmouth for us today. We do have two good bets there, both in fillies races.

The 2.50 sees Neshmeya installed as favourite to make the most of the promise that she showed on her Newmarket debut when well backed. She was just beaten by another very useful type and a reproduction of that rating would be good enough to win a Yarmouth maiden a very large percentage of the time. 5/4 is a good price. There are a couple of well bred newcomers in this, but making their seasonal debut at this stage of the year would suggest that they are behind in their work. A confident selection.

In the opener, there are a couple of well bred types that have shown promise and they are short in the betting. Bequia and Loving might well go on to better things, but the value for me is with Coral Sea. This horse rates in the high 70s, but back up to 6 furlongs today should see a marked improvement on that. She raced over this trip on debut at Newbury and it looks more like her distance. With the three runs under her belt, fitness and race experience are in her favour and if they set a good pace today I fancy her to go close at a decent price. Back her each way at 13/2.
