It looked as if Bastian Schweinsteiger were about to make a spectacular return for Manchester United against West Ham.
Having been left out in the cold all season by Jose Mourinho, the German did incredibly well to be named on the bench for the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.
Even though that was as far as he made it, Mourinho must still have taken some convincing. Perhaps that tells you everything you need to know about United’s injury problems and lack of depth.
This time, it was Michael Carrick who missed out with a slight strain. Even Henrikh Mkhitaryan was included on the bench, though hardly a just reward for his outstanding performance in the Europa League midweek.
Nonetheless, it doesn’t look like Schweinsteiger’s return is going to be a permanent thing.
According to the Sun, Santos want to make the World Cup winner a marquee signing in January.
The midfielder could join a club graced by the likes of Pele and Neymar, though it still seems more probable that he’s heading for the MLS.
Paddy Power haven’t even included Santos among the clubs you can bet on for the 32-year-old’s next move.
Any MLS side is at 13/5, any Australian club is at 6/1, while the likes of AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund are outsiders at 25/1.
