Champions League Tuesday

The Champions League is back this week and the draw for the last-16 has thrown up some potentially scintillating ties.

With the group stages over, the men have been separated from the boys. Let’s take a look at the betting for Tuesday’s fixtures.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Barcelona

Barca edge this one as favourites, but only just. The best value in this is for the goalscorers, with Lionel Messi to find the back of the net first at 4/1. The Argentine has netted an incredible 10 goals in his 5 appearances so far in the competition this season.

Then again, Edinson Cavani is an equally good shout. The PSG frontman is the top scorer of all the major European leagues, and he’s at 7/2 here to score first here. With Real Madrid leading La Liga, Barcelona will be going all out for the Champions League this season, so they’ll be looking for a crucial away goal at the Parc des Princes.

Benfica vs Borussia Dortmund

Benfica are 2/1, but BVB aren’t going into the game in the best form. Thomas Tuchel’s side lost 2-1 to Darmstadt at the weekend and only scraped past Hertha Berlin in the cup. Prior to that, they’d only won one of five league games. That could make travelling to Estadio da Luz very tricky, and Benfica shouldn’t be underestimated.

Both teams to score with under 3.5 goals in the game is at 2/1, and that sounds about right in what should be a close encounter. You can get the same odds on Ousmane Dembele scoring first – there’s no point backing BVB’s star man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who’s at just 11/10, but 19-year-old talent Dembele should be a decent choice.
