Wednesday November 30th
Catterick and Ffos Lass today and there are a few horses that I will be backing. Catterick is similar to other left handed tracks like Kelso, Warwick, Uttoxeter and Fakenham, tight with a lot of undulations. I group them together when looking at course preferences. The going is reported as good, which will likely hold up given that the Stick Rating has been above 8. The front runners that have the balance and speed to handle the track should really have a big advantage today.
In the 3.00, the Skelton and King camps clash again and should provide the winner in this beginners’ chase. Laissez Dire for Alan King has won races over timber in France. He is only 4 so gets some handy weight allowance from the rest of the field, which could make all the difference as he tries to catch Work In Progress. This one holds a 135 rating over hurdles, but I actually have it a little bit lower. He does looks like a chaser in the making, and will like the faster ground and should set off in the lead. However, I expect Laissez Dire to mount a serious challenge approaching the last and to have the superior flat speed on the run-in.
