Ben Duckett insists he is not heading home from England’s tour of India after his latest mysterious tweet.

The Northants batsman has been dropped for the current Test after struggling in the south-continent, replaced by Jos Buttler.

The reality is that the 22-year-old was brought into the fold at a ridiculous time; his first chances were handed to him in Bangladesh, when Alex Hales and even one-day captain Eoin Morgan deemed the tour too unsafe to travel.

To ask a young debutant to come in under those circumstances was perhaps a little unfair, and upon his first Test series, there was ongoing confusion as to whether he would be opening or playing slightly lower down the order.

Alastair Cook has done little to back him either, so it’s no wonder there was speculation that he could be about to fly back to his county. Take a look at his initial tweet:

However, he quickly followed it up with an explanation:

Haseeb Hameed’s revelation that he’s been playing with a broken finger could have given Duckett one last chance to prove himself in this series, so it remains to be seen whether he’ll be back in the near future.
