Arsene Wenger mustn’t dismiss the EFL Cup

The League Cup might not be Arsene Wenger’s priority, but Arsenal have a good chance of silverware going into the quarter-finals.

Southampton stand in their way of reaching the last four, but as the Saints balance a top-10 challenge with their Europa League campaign, they can’t afford to place too much emphasis on the domestic cups.

Even if the Gunners put out an understrength side, they’re still edging it as favourites. Wenger’s men look a decent bet at 2/1 to either win 1-0, 2-0, or 2-1, but Southampton’s defence is notoriously stubborn.

Under normal circumstances, a 4/1 price of Arsenal winning by 2 or more goals would be pretty exciting, but Southampton have conceded just one goal in their last three games in all competitions.

Ultimately, it’s not the biggest game on the calendar for either side, but both managers would surely love the chance to travel to Wembley if they make the final.

For Wenger, it’s even more imperative that he delivers a trophy in what could be his last season at the Emirates.
