Nabil Bentaleb’s Tottenham future one step closer to being decided

It’s been clear for quite some time that Nabil Bentaleb had no future at Tottenham.

Despite the midfielder’s progress under former interim manager Tim Sherwood, Mauricio Pochettino never seems to have rated him, so it was little surprise that he was sent on loan this summer.

The Algerian’s career has been ticking along nicely at Schalke, and the Bundesliga outfit are therefore already making plans to make his transfer permanent.

That’s according to Liberte Algerie, a publication in Bentaleb’s native country, who claim Schalke will pay 19million euros for the player.

Spurs will no doubt be rather pleased they can recoup such a fee for a youngster who never really fulfilled his potential.

The only concern among Lilywhites fans has always been that he could prove to be the ‘one that got away’, and they could be left regretting his sale if he goes on to excel elsewhere.

Yet, Bentaleb was always a little too clumsy in possession for many supporters’ liking, and with Spurs’ central midfield now thriving, it seems his loan move was just prolonging the inevitable.
