Guardiola hoping to reunite with Bayern Munich defender at City

It seems inevitable that Manchester City will strengthen in January as they continue to falter defensively.

Pep Guardiola has watched his side concede eleven goals in their last five games as they continue their run without a win, and he must have serious doubts about veterans such as Aleksandr Kolarov and Gael Clichy.

And it’s equally inevitable that as City prepare for a New Year spree, they are being linked with a host of stars from Guardiola’s old clubs Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

One such name floating around is that of Juan Bernat, the Bayern full-back who Guardiola signed for the Bundesliga giants during his time at the club.

The Sun have it that the 23-year-old is rated at £20million and would be a good option because he can play at left-back or on the left side of midfield.

Yet, it may be that the Citizens decide to wait until the summer to make their move for Bernat and his team-mate, starlet Kingsley Coman.

Clichy will be out of contract then, so it would be the perfect time to bring in a new full-back without causing too much friction.

Bayern are set to make a decent profit, too, having signed Bernat for just £8million two years ago.
