Champions League: Atleti to beat Leicester at their own game

Atletico Madrid vs Leicester

Craig Shakespeare’s unbeaten run is over after Leicester suffered a 4-2 defeat at Everton on Sunday. Their attentions now turn to the Champions League, but Atleti are probably one of the worst teams the Foxes could have drawn. Diego Simeone’s side are not going to leave themselves open and are likely to play Leicester at their own game, but the La Liga side are just better at it.

Shakespeare will be hoping for damage limitation in the Spanish capital and then relying on the home leg, just as they did in the last-16 against Sevilla. If they play it right, it should be a close affair, and Atleti are at a good price of 5/2 to win by exactly one goal.

Antoine Griezmann and Kevin Gameiro are the obvious picks for first scorer at 5/2 and 7/2 respectively. Griezmann has scored more in Europe this season with a ratio of a goal every two games, but Gameiro has started less and has still netted two.

Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid

This is a clash that would have been worthy of a final, but one of the favourites has to go out here. We’re backing over 2.5 goals given the triumphant manner in which the Bavarians cruised past Arsenal, and Real’s enormous attacking threat should see them score at least one.

Real are 100/30 to win on the night because of Bayern’s brilliant home record. Carlo Ancelotti’s men haven’t lost at the Allianz Arena this season, so Arjen Robben to score and Munich to win at 3/1 might be a safer option.

Zinedine Zidane shouldn’t allow his defenders to give Robben time to cut inside like Arsenal did, but the Dutchman is still a big favourite to get on the scoresheet after his three goals in five starts in the Champions League this term. The 33-year-old is also at 5/1 to score first.
