17-year-old Ben Woodburn stars as Liverpool march on

Ben Woodburn could not have got off to a more perfect start after scoring in front of the Kop on his Liverpool cup debut.

The 17-year-old took to the field 18 years to the day that Steven Gerrard made his Reds debut, and all the indications are that he’s going to be a hit at the club just like the legendary midfielder.

A 2-0 victory over Leeds means Jurgen Klopp has guided Liverpool to the last four of the EFL trophy for the second season in a row – only this time he’ll be hoping they can go one better than last time when they lost to Manchester City in the final.

Klopp’s men are 8/13 to win the cup, which isn’t surprising given their form under the German. It’ll be interesting to see how they balance their cup runs with a league title challenge this year, as last season they focused solely on reaching two cup finals.

Nonetheless, it’s great to see Klopp asking his players to keep their options open, as the title race is going to be hugely competitive, and without European football, this could be Liverpool’s best chance of a trophy.
